When searching for a place to stay, keep in mind the following areas, which are just minutes from downtown Detroit; Windsor/Ontario, Dearborn, Taylor, Romulus, Plymouth, Livonia, Warren, Royal Oak, Pontiac, Auburn Hills, Utica and Sterling Heights. More than three dozen national hotel chains are located in the Detroit metro area. They include luxurious, five star hotels with one or two-room suites and meeting space, personal service, fitness centers, heated indoor pools, restaurants on site, sauna/whirlpool, valet parking, room service, wheelchair access and many other special amenities. Some may include complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast and Internet access or complementary shuttle service. Other hotels are available that are more with families in mind and are budget-friendly. These hotels/motels are convenient, clean and comfortable with amenities such as refrigerators in room, color TV with cable, phone service, microwaves and coffee makers in room, outdoor pools and free parking. This one is just minutes from downtown, the theater district, sporting events & every major expressway. Several bed & breakfasts are located in the town of Windsor, which is just a short drive from Detroit.

Camping is also available in the Detroit at five area campgrounds – Port Huron, Proud Lake Recreation Area, Waterloo State Recreation Area, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park and the Brighton Recreation Area. Proud Lake is a 4,000-acre recreation area that is just on the tip of the metro Detroit area. A section of the Huron River flows through the park and a shallow and scenic waterway is of particular interest to canoers. The park also has a beach for swimming, a hiking trail and picnic shelters. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone has a plethora of activities such as bumper boats, an arcade and children’s rides, all combined with a campgrounds near the Great Lakes Crossings Mall.
