is known internationally for its automobile manufacturing and trade. The General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company and the North American headquarters for DaimlerChrysler and Volkswagon are all located in metro Detroit. Several other national and international corporations also have their headquarters located in the city. These companies employ more than two million people in the Detroit metro area. The city ranks as a leader in the production of paints, non-electric machinery and automation equipment, rubber products, synthetic resins and garden seed. The major employers by industry are manufacturing, retail trade, services, finance, insurance and real estate, wholesale trade, public administration and agriculture and mining.
